Azure Stack

Microsoft Azure

What is Azure Stack?

Azure Stack is a hybrid cloud extension of Azure which allows you to consistently build and run hybrid applications across cloud boundaries and deliver Azure services in your data centre.

What are the benefits?

Developers need a rich platform to build modern applications. Some cloud-based applications pose obstacles such as latency, intermittent connectivity and regulations. However, Azure and Azure Stack provides new hybrid cloud use for customer-facing and internal business applications.

People use the solution because of its:

Edge and Disconnected Solutions

You can tackle latency and connectivity requirements by processing data locally and then transfer to Azure for further analytics. There is common application logic across both platforms. Even if you’re disconnected from the internet you can still deploy the solution – you don’t even have to be connected to Azure. This is particularly useful for use on warehouse or factory floors and cruise ships where connectivity is limited.

Cloud Applications that Meet Varied Regulations.

This means that you can develop and deploy applications in Azure and deploy on-premises with Azure Stack to ensure you meet regulatory and policy requirements.

Cloud Application Model On-Premises.

Update and extend existing applications or build new ones through its services, containers, serverless, and microservice architectures. You can speed up application modernisation for core mission-critical applications by using consistent DevOps processes across Azure in the cloud and Azure Stack.

Azure Stack allows you to do this because of its:

  • Integrated delivery – Get up and running quickly through its purpose-built integrated systems from trusted hardware partners. Following delivery, Azure Stack seamlessly integrates into the data centre with monitoring available through extensions.
  • Flexible identity management – You can use Azure Active Directory (Azure AD) for your hybrid environments and leveraging Active Directory Federation Services (AD FS) for disconnected deployments.
  • Hybrid cloud computing – Azure services delivery from on-premises using hybrid cloud computing power. Adopt common operational practices across Azure and Azure Stack to deploy and operate Azure IaaS and PaaS services using the same administrative experiences and tools as Azure. Microsoft delivers continuous Azure innovation, including new Azure services, updates to existing services, and additional Azure Marketplace applications and images.
